It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Isam-Eldin Eltoum to the position of Vice Chair for Quality and Patient Safety effective January 1, 2017.
As a Vice Chair for Quality and Patient Safety, Dr. Eltoum will be assuming the following roles:
- Responsible for operational oversight of department wide QA/QI, performance improvement, risk reduction/mitigation, infection control, patient safety and regulatory management operations
- Lead and coordinate the various divisional quality improvement and accreditation activities (CAP, ASCP, AABB etc.)
- Lead the development and application of departmental quality and risk management strategies and the establishment of annual goals for the various divisions of the department
- Oversees and Promotes a culture of safety, innovation and team-based high-value high-quality service
- Responsibilities for communication and education regarding quality and risk management activities in the Department
- Interacts with hospital executives and administrative leadership to gain support for QI activities and coordinates activities related to the JCAHO accreditation to include resolution of any issue or deficiencies identified
Dr. Eltoum joined the Department of Pathology in February, 1998 and has contributed immensely to fulfilling our missions in service, education and research. He is currently serving as the Director of Cytopathology Section and the Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship Program.
