Umah_Chiamaka_1.pngChiamaka Umah, M.D., PGY2, has been selected by the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Physician Scientist Development Office (PSDO) for a position in the NIH NIAID UAB R38 StARR (Stimulating Access to Research and Residency) Training Program, effective July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.

The UAB R38 StARR Training Program supports physician-scientists by integrating robust research training with their residency experience. Participants will have access to dedicated research time, career development activities, research funding, and travel support. The goal of UAB StARR is to help cultivate the skills and experiences necessary for a successful career as a physician-scientist. Benefits of this position include 80% salary coverage, $3,000 for domestic scientific conference travel and $16,000 to be used for workshop registration to obtain research skills in areas of data science and scientific rigors, skill development for research preceptors of clinician-investigators and research supplies that include core facility use for research activities.
