The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) hosted its 114th annual meeting March 22-27 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, Massachusetts, where several members of UAB Pathology presented various topics of research.
On Sunday, March 23, our team participated in the Fellowship Fair, where we showcased information about the opportunities within our program. Faculty, staff, and trainees engaged with prospective applicants.
On Monday, March 24, Gian Carames, M.D., Alyssa Lee, M.D., M.S., Shi Wei, M.D., Ph.D., Hua Guo, M.D., and Isam Eltoum, M.D., presented the poster, “Interobserver Variability of HER2 Scoring Between Breast Pathologists in Cytology/Histology Specimens in Breast Cancer Patients with Concurrent Malignant Pleural Effusions.”
Frida Rosenblum, M.D., presented the poster, "Salivary Gland Lymphomas: A Multi-Institutional Case Series with Cyto-Histo Correlation."
UAB Pathology members attended the departmental reception after conference activities on Monday evening at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport.
On Tuesday, March 25, Sarah A. Anderson, D.O., Brooke B. Bartow, M.D., Sooryanarayana Varambally, Ph.D., Dennis Otali, Ph.D., Shuko Harada, M.D., Dr. Shi Wei, Gene P. Siegal, M.D., Ph.D., and Xiao Huang, M.D., Ph.D., presented the platform presentation “A Truncating Mutation of the GATA3 Gene Affects the Treatment Response with a CDK4/6 Inhibitor via p18/INK4C Expression in Advanced Breast Carcinoma.”
Cristina Magi-Galluzzi, M.D., Ph.D., Robert and Ruth Anderson Endowed Chair in Pathology, presented the poster, “Paraganglioma of the urinary bladder: an international collaborative study of 59 tumors.”
Sofia Canete-Portillo, M.D., presented the poster, “Comparative Distribution of HPV-associated Subtypes and Genotypes in Penile and Vulvar Squamous Cell Carcinomas.”
On Wednesday, March 26, Bohan Ning, M.D., Valeria L. Dal Zotto, M.D., Andrea G. Kahn, M.D., Jia Xu, Ph.D., and Dr. Hua Guo, presented the poster, “Significant Worse Progression Free Survival (PFS) in early-stage (pT1N0M0) Uterine Serous Carcinoma with HER2-positive and HER2-low Status: One institution’s experience.”
Kanako Okamoto, Alexander C. Mackinnon, M.D., Ph.D., Darshan S. Chandrashekar, Ph.D., and Dr. Shuko Harada, presented the poster, “Clinicopathological and Molecular Characterization of DNA Mismatch Repair Deficient Endometrial Carcinomas.”
