After a national search, Kathy Monroe, M.D., has been named the next division director of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. She began her new role June 1, 2021.

Dr. Monroe is currently a professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at UAB and has been medical director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine since 2010. She is a graduate of Walker College, Birmingham Southern College and the UAB School of Medicine. She completed her internship, residency and fellowship at UAB and has been on our faculty since 1995.

She is well known locally for her leadership and management in clinical operations and nationally for her leadership, mentorship, scholarship and advocacy in injury prevention. We look forward to Dr. Monroe having the opportunity to lead and grow the talented faculty in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
