The UAB Department of Pediatrics is improving child health through research and innovation. Over the last decade, we have experienced enormous growth with the support of the UAB Health System, the School of Medicine and Children’s of Alabama.
Our department consistently ranks in the top 20 departments of pediatrics in the country in NIH funding with most of our 19 divisions participating in research. Some of our most noteworthy areas include Neonatology, where our investigators lead the NICHD-funded Cooperative Multi-Center Neonatal Research Network and participate in the Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research; Infectious Diseases, where our NIAID-funded Collaborative Antiviral Study Group has defined the treatment of neonatal HSV and congenital CMV; Neurology, with an NICHD-funded Rare Disease Clinical Research Center; and Pulmonary, with its MCHB-funded Pediatric Pulmonary Center, CFF Research Development Program, and NIDDK-funded CF Research and Translation Core Center. Our research discoveries and resulting clinical advances directly impact children’s lives. That impact will be our legacy.
