We are delighted to announce that the following individuals have agreed to serve on the inaugural Department of Pediatrics Staff Wellness and Recognition Council!
Ana Xavier, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, has been selected as the vice chair for the Pediatric Aggressive Mature B-Cell Lymphomas Panel for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Guidelines.
Michael Stalvey, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes, has been selected to serve on the Executive Committee to plan ResearchCon 2022.
Last week, the UAB Pediatrics Health Equity Scholars spent three days participating in an immersive experience to explore the historical context of health disparities and inequities within Alabama. The group traveled throughout the Black Belt of Alabama, visiting places pivotal to the Civil Rights Movement and areas battling current health disparities and inequities.
Chibuzo Ilonze, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, won the 2021 Alabama State Chess Championship in the Premier Section.
Shaundra Blakemore, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Brian Sims, M.D., Ph.D., professor in the Division of Neonatology, will serve as co-directors of the new UAB Pediatrics Mini-Medical School. Support for this program has come from the Wally Carlo family.
The AAP/VON Scholar Awards are awarded every year to five fellows and early career neonatologists by the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Neonatal Perinatal Medicine (SoNPM).
