Biography
Tania K. Arora, M.D., joined the UAB Department of Surgery's Division of Surgical Oncology as professor in July 2024. She also serves as the Department's Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Dr. Arora earned her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also completed her general surgery residency and fellowship in complex general surgical oncology.
She is board-certified in both general surgery and complex surgical oncology and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Arora is a member of numerous professional organizations -- including the Association of Academic Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Association of Surgical Education, along with many others.
Her research interests include diversity, equity, and inclusion in surgery -- with an emphasis on improving clinical outcomes for all cancer patients and quality in healthcare and medical education. She also conducts research on curriculum design and implementation.
