Soroush Rais-Bahrami, M.D., MBA, FACS, has been appointed the William H. Boyce Chair in Urology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, effective June 1, 2025. 

Below is a correspondence sent out by UAB Department of Urology department chair, Dr. Thomas Chi. 

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to share very exciting news with you regarding our colleague, friend, and long-time faculty member, Dr. Soroush Rais-Bahrami. Dr. Rais-Bahrami has accepted a new role as chair of the Department of Urology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, effective June 1, 2025. This is a significant accomplishment and exciting milestone that speaks volumes about Dr. Rais-Bahrami’s expertise and commitment to leadership, patient care, and research in the field of urology.

Over the past 10 years, Dr. Rais-Bahrami has been an integral part of the UAB Department of Urology, having served in various roles: starting out as an assistant professor in 2014, being promoted to associate professor in 2018, and then professor with tenure in 2022. He was our Associate Residency Program Director from 2016-2022 and has been valued on a local, regional, and national stage for his contributions to the field of urology. During his time with the department, he also established and led the UAB Program for Personalized Prostate Cancer Care and the UAB Department of Urology Innovations Lab. Of note, in 2021 he was recognized by the UAB Department of Urology Chief Resident Award as “Most Likely to Become Department Chair.” In October 2022, Dr. Rais-Bahrami assumed the title of Interim Chair of the UAB Department of Urology – a role in which he excelled as a steward for our team.

Dr. Rais-Bahrami’s support of our clinical, research, and educational missions has left a lasting impact on both our department and the broader medical community. We are incredibly grateful for his hard work, guidance, and many achievements he has accomplished in his tenure at UAB to help bolster the reputation of the UAB Department of Urology in the greater Birmingham area and across the nation.

While I know we will miss his presence and leadership, I’m excited for him as he embarks on this new chapter in his career. We will have to credit the 2021 UAB Urology Chief Residents for their prescience! Please join me in congratulating Dr. Rais-Bahrami and wishing him all the best in his future endeavors.
