Each July, the Partnership members come together for the Summer Institute. This one- or two-day conference convenes investigators, scholars, students and staff to share research information and experiences. The different programs and cores of the Partnership are highlighted. The Developmental Research Program pilot and research project investigators present results of their work, and other experts may be invited for keynote presentations. The Bioethics Core leads discussion groups on the conference theme and the Community Outreach Program has held Community Health Worker Panels and other relevant activities. A highlight of the Summer Institute is the poster session, where students in the SCRTP and scholars in the HDRTP present their research projects to the Partnership, and have the opportunity to discuss research with all the investigators. Several students are selected to give oral presentations as well. The top three judged in each group receive awards for the presentations of their work. The Summer Institute is the annual celebration of the Partnership’s collaboration together.
The three institutions of the Partnership alternate hosting the Summer Institute: in 2010 it was held at MSM and in 2011 UAB hosted it in Birmingham. Summer Institute 2012 will take place at Tuskegee University.
