Seminar Series
The UAB NORC Seminar Series, co-sponsored by the Department of Nutrition Sciences, is a weekly seminar series featuring leading nutrition and obesity researchers. Many of these seminars are recorded and freely available to researchers, educators, and the public.
Learn MoreCourses
Several recorded courses are available that offer rigorous exposure to the key fundamental principles underlying a broad array of techniques used to derive causal inferences in nutrition and obesity research, as well as an introduction to interface between obesity research and the mathematical sciences including engineering, statistics, computer science, physics, econometrics, psychometrics, epidemiology, and mathematics qua mathematics.
Learn MoreConferences
We sponsor numerous multidisciplinary conferences that bring together students and scientists to examine in depth topics germane to nutrition and obesity research, including genetics, the developmental origins of obesity, and scientific approaches to strengthening research integrity in nutrition and epigenetics. Click "Learn More" to visit our virtual library of UAB NORC sponsored conferences as well as individual talks given by NORC members at research conferences.
Learn MoreWorkshops
Our workshops are designed to expand the professional skillset of our trainees and researchers by facilitating creative research ideas, career advice and advancement, how to be a mentor, how to be a good peer reviewer, and other topics rarely covered in the classroom.
Learn MoreTopics
The breadth of topics covered in our seminar series, courses, conferences, and workshops is extensive, going back more than twenty years. To facilitate the use of our enrichment programs by researchers and educators alike, we have begun curating all enrichment materials related to a given topic. Over time, we hope the topic list will help individuals identify all enrichment content in a given research area.
Training Programs
There are two training programs affiliated with the NORC—a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Obesity Research (for those who have already earned their Ph.D), A Pre-Doctoral Training PROGRAM that offers support and research mentorship for graduate students interested in obesity related research, and an American Heart Association (AHA) Strategically Focused Research Center Post-doctoral Fellowship in Obesity Research.
Learn MoreNORC Social Media
Our researchers and educators regularly post brief videos to social media highlighting their research.
