We are excited to announce a joint pilot with Microbiology, please see below for the link to the Microbiology/Nutritional & Obesity Research Center (NORC) Pilot grant RFA and the REDCAP portal to submit the pilot project. The pilot grant will be for $50,000 and is for a collaboration between a faculty member in Microbiology and a member of the NORC. Pilot projects are meant to generate preliminary data that can be used in competitive grant applications to the NIH, NSF or other extramural funding agencies.
I know that you are all asking yourselves “how will I find a partner in Microbiology with whom to do this??”. The answer is the Micro/NORC Social that will be held on August 2nd at 4-5:30 PM at the UAB Alumni House. You should have already received a calendar invite, and it will be a meet and greet with wine and appetizers.
I want to emphasize that there is tremendous room for collaboration. We can help dissect the impact of Obesity/Diabetes on:
Infectious Disease outcomes (e.g., COVID)
Cancer
Chronic inflammation
Asthma
Vaccine efficacy
Autoimmunity
etc.
So this is a very powerful way to take something you are already good at, and with the right partner, finding a new area (and NIH Center) to investigate and get funding.
I really want to have a high NORC turnout at this event.
Please email me if you have any questions. Happy to answer.
