Four finalists for the position of vice president of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will make open presentations during September.
Paulette Dilworth, Ph.D., is the first candidate who will make a public presentation and answer questions. Dilworth, assistant vice president of access and community initiatives within the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Auburn University, will speak 2:45 p.m. Sept. 9 in Heritage Hall Building Room 104. All are encouraged to attend.Dilworth has held positions at Indiana University, Florida A&M University and Emory University, where she received both her master’s and doctorate degrees. She has more than 25 years of progressively responsible experience in diversity leadership, and since 1996, she has received 15 awards, grants and recognitions, including the 2006 Kipchoge Kirkland Teaching for Social Justice Research Award. She has also authored dozens of journal articles, book chapters, teaching publications and editorial essays on the subjects of diversity and social justice.

- , Ph.D., principal and chief strategist at Criticality Management Consulting, will visit campus Sept. 15-16. Gates was Harvard University’s associate dean for administration and finance and has held other positions at the University of Vermont and New York University. He earned his doctorate from the University of London and has served on the board of directors for Fenway Health, in addition to other professional and community activities.

- , Ph.D., associate vice president and chief diversity officer at the College of Charleston, will visit campus Sept. 21-22. Bello-Ogunu also has worked at Wichita State University, North Georgia College and State University and Auburn University, among others. He has more than two decades of combined administrative, teaching, research and consulting experiences in the areas of academic affairs and diversity and multicultural affairs. He created the Office of Institutional Diversity within the College of Charleston and has published many journal articles and book chapters and delivered dozens of oral presentations on the topics of diversity and inclusion.

- , Ph.D., founding president and executive director of Rootstrong and an adjunct faculty member and consulting partner within Boston College’s Lynch School of Education’s Donovan Urban Teaching Scholars Program and Urban Outreach initiatives, will visit campus Sept. 23-24. McManus also is a senior associate at Kingston Bay Group and has held positions at City University of New York, Ethical Cultural Fieldston School and the William Jewett Tucker Foundation at Dartmouth College, among others. He has spoken on diversity, inclusion and social justice at universities in Russia, Ukraine, Qatar and the United Kingdom in addition to ones in America. He has served on the boards of the Diversity Collegium and the Center for Professional Development in Diversity, among others.
The vice president of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has enterprisewide responsibility for facilitating strategic initiatives to promote diversity excellence as a fundamental institutional and educational value woven into UAB’s culture, operations, business practices and programming. The position provides visionary leadership to enable UAB to build on its core principles of inclusiveness in its learning environments, programs, workforce and strategic partnerships.
