Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the spring 2021 class schedule will be revised to adhere to the social-distancing guidelines that were used in fall 2020 to protect students and faculty. To ensure that students have accurate information when making their course selections for spring 2021, the spring 2021 class schedule must be updated to accurately reflect the delivery mode for each course by Friday, Oct. 2, 2020.
The following actions should be taken if class schedules have not been updated:
- Courses that will meet remotely will need to have their Building and Room Code updated to REMOTE.
- Courses that will meet online should have a schedule type of “Q”.
- Courses that should be marked as hybrid should be sent in an Excel file with the course CRNs, Subject and Course Number to classscheduling@uab.edu. The room assigned for hybrid courses will need to meet the guidelines set by UAB Facilities for social distancing, including maximum capacity per day. The same processing will occur to assign the meeting days to students. If you would like to have a class designated as hybrid BUT do not want the attendance day assigned for the class, please submit the class information in a separate Excel file with the course CRNs, Subject and Course Number to classscheduling@uab.edu, appropriately labeled to distinguish the difference.
- Courses that will meet face to face should have no changes and if meeting in departmental space should meet the guidelines set by UAB Facilities for social distancing, including maximum capacity.
- Section long-text will be updated programmatically based on the adjustments above, so no need to input long text in CLSS.
- Please be sure changes are made to all cross-listed sections so the comments are updated appropriately on each.
- Faculty are encouraged to build out their Canvas course shells with a minimum of the first two weeks of course materials no later than Jan. 12, 2021. The Division of eLearning and Professional Studies is ready to begin helping faculty prepare for Spring courses at uab.edu/elearning/services.
The Registrar’s Office will process requests as quickly as possible and in the order in which they are received. In order to provide departments an opportunity to review and adjust the course delivery method for the spring course offerings, the registration period for students will be adjusted to begin in November. Similarly to fall, we anticipate some additional changes may be required after publication due to space availability, demand and similar needs. Please be in touch with the Registrar’s Office if you have questions.
