UAB has appointed a committee to review its child-care program and provide recommendations and options for expanding facilities and services for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Among the first steps is a brief survey of its employees at UAB, UAB Hospital, Health Services Foundation, Health System, Callahan Eye Hospital and VIVA, says committee chair Chris Clifford.
“This will provide the committee with some of the most valuable information needed to make recommendations, and we encourage everyone who has child-care needs to complete the survey so their voice can be heard,” Clifford said. Access the survey here.
The task force also will compare UAB’s program to best practices in the city and at other similar universities, investigate requests and complaints and make recommendations and examine options to expand the child-care benefit in a high-quality, cost-effective way.
UAB’s Child Development Center, in operation since 1995, is among the 5 percent of child-care centers to be accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. It provides care and instruction exclusively for the children of UAB employees. At this time, 16 teachers supervise 85 children.
