Through her tireless efforts to ensure UAB has a clean and safe environment for its patients and guests, Teresa Amos creates the best first impression in one of UAB Hospital’s busiest areas.
Whenever you see Amos, a housekeeper assigned to second floor North Pavilion lobby, she is busy. In addition to checking and cleaning restrooms, emptying trash and vacuuming carpet, she also can be found pointing visitor's in the right direction and providing words of encouragement and comfort to patients and guests.
“These are qualities you cannot teach, they are inherent,” said Michael Hill, senior manager for environmental services. “Ms. Amos’ work ethic exemplifies what a model employee should be. She has shown and continues to show a genuine interest and concern for those who visit our facility.”
For these reasons and others, Amos was nominated for and selected UAB’s Employee of the Month.
“The public area where Ms. Amos is routinely assigned is one of the busiest areas in the hospital, and she addresses the area with passion and pride,” said EVS Manager James Hudson, who has been her supervisor for the past six years.
Her attentiveness to detail help ensure that patients and guests entering the main hospital building get a strong first impression of UAB, other co-workers said. And she does a superb job making UAB and its hospital a comfortable and pleasing place to visit.
Senior Manager Wesley Wall agreed: “She provides such a positive influence on UAB with her actions and great work which are seen by so many guests, patients and other co-workers. We all are aware that what visitors first see and experience here will have a significant impact on their perception during their entire stay. I consider her not only to be an EVS specialist but also a UAB ambassador to the many faces she sees each and every day.”
“Ms. Amos exhibits the UAB Hospital core values in totality. She is always busy at work… She is a great ambassador for the hospital and for the Environmental Services department,” said Richard Ishaku, EVS manager.
