Tim Nagy competed in the driver-pledge competition “Accelerating a Cancer Cure” Nov. 14-15 at Barber Motorsports Park to raise more research funds for the Cancer Center. Nagy is one of the founders of “Accelerating a Cancer Cure.”
The UAB School of Medicine Senior Mentor Program pairs first-year medical students with Birmingham-area seniors. The students interview the seniors at least six times in a two-year period to sharpen their interviewing skills and better learn how to care for geriatric patients.
The UAB Campus Recreation Center will offer a free trial from Saturday, Dec. 26 through Thursday, Dec. 31.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham has requested that the Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics Protein Data Bank remove certain protein structure files deposited by a former UAB employee. UAB also has identified nine publications related to the same protein structures that should be retracted from various scientific journals, and is making those journals aware of this matter.
UAB Hospital senior management is responding to this year’s Employee Satisfaction Survey with action plans in the areas of communication, concern for employees, pay satisfaction and parking. The purpose of the survey was to help the entire management team identify the changes that would have the biggest impact in improving employee satisfaction.

UAB will host the state's first distracted driving summit Dec. 3 to bring together leaders in transportation, policy, law enforcement and science to discuss how to reduce motor-vehicle crashes resulting from distracted driving through legislation, enforcement, public awareness and education.

Robert (Bo) Cofield, Dr.P.H., is stepping down from his roles as associate vice president of UAB Hospital, chief operating officer of UAB Highlands Hospital, and interim president of Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital to join the University of Virginia Medical Center as chief operating officer and associate vice president for hospital and clinics operations.
A collaboration among UAB optometrists, ophthalmologists and dentists, including associate professor Stephen Mitchell and several of his dentistry students, resulted in free eye care, free glasses and a free dental checkup for several teenage girls from the Republic of Moldova.
