Gossman Lecture Panel 

The Marylin R. Gossman Endowed Lectureship celebrated its 10th anniversary with an inspiring presentation delivered by Elizabeth Dean, PT, Ph.D., titled "This is What it Takes to Address Societal Health and Equity. Are Physical Therapists Ready?"

Dean is an Emeriti Professor at The University of British Columbia. She is an internationally renowned researcher and lecturer. The presentation, which focused on physical therapist’s role in promoting healthy lifestyles from a health equity perspective, included a post-lecture panel discussion featuring Patrick Berner, owner and founder of Fuel Physio, LLC; Oscar Gallardo, program director of Fit Families and PT at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center; and Kai Kennedy vice chair of Equity and associate professor at the University of California San Francisco.

The Gossman Lecture has a rich history at UAB PT. It was established to commemorate Marilyn R. Gossman, who served as Department Chair for over 30 years. The lectureship honors her significant contributions to the field and her dedication to advancing physical therapy education.

Over the years, the lecture has served as a platform to bring renowned experts to UAB and share their expertise with the academic community. Each lecture aims to inspire and educate students, faculty, and professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in physical therapy. Gossman’s legacy lives on today through the hundreds of students and faculty members whose lives she touched.
