>The UAB School of Health Professions had seven undergraduate students - all in the B.S. in Biomedical Sciences program - earn honors at the 2019 UAB EXPO. Every semester the EXPO celebrates excellence in research, creative activity and scholarship by showcasing the academic endeavors of undergraduate students in nine categories for oral and poster presentations.

Poster Presentations

Health Sciences

2nd Place: Whitney Eckenroad, Shannon Rice and Caroline Steber. In addition to their BMD work, each student also studies in the SHP Undergraduate Research & Honors program working toward a Research Technician Certificate. Their poster is titled "Differential roles for Notch-1 and Notch-4 in mouse fat depot regulation."

Works in Progress

2nd Place: Marissa Brasher, Jenna Bae for their poster "Undergraduate Research and Soft-skill development: A systemic review."

Biological and Life Sciences

3rd Place: Zeelu Patel who is also working toward a Research Tech Certificate. Poster titled "Targeting voltage-gated sodium channels in neuroendocrine tumors in vitro using small molecule compounds."

Oral Presentation

3rd Place: James Boyett for "A systematic review of undergraduate research and the development of soft-skills."
