DNS Awards
DNS awards are back, aimed at recognizing top faculty, staff, and students who, not only enrich the research, teaching and administrative aspects of this department, but also bring energy and fun to it. Choosing the best person to receive each award will be the challenging task of the Awards Committee.
The 2023–2024 Awards Committee, chaired by Catia Martins, includes Lizzy Davis, Marian Carter, and Carly Drake.
Applications close on September 13th. Awards will be given at the department Christmas party.
Self-nominations are NOT allowed.
School-Wide Awards
Excellence in Teaching Award
This award will be given to a faculty member who exhibits success in developing effective teaching methods, courses and teaching materials that generate student learning, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and research.

Excellence in Scholarship Award
This award is for a faculty member who has made significant scholarly contributions resulting in the advancement of knowledge. Contributions include funded research, involvement in research process, publications in peer reviewed journals and more.

Outstanding Staff Award
This award is for a staff member who has made significant contributions to the department.

Department-Wide Awards
Mentor of the Year
This award is for a faculty member who has proved to be an outstanding mentor. The mentor of the year should be nominated by mentees.

Trainee of the Year
This award is for a graduate student who has made significant scholarly contributions, including thesis, conference poster/presentation and/or an accepted manuscript. The trainee of the year should be nominated by mentors.

Fun Award
This award can be given to anyone in the department (not specific to faculty, staff, or students) who has contributed significantly to the well-being of the department by bringing fun, energy and support to the DNS family. It can be based on humorous traits or quirks of employees, such as “Most Likely to Have a Snack Stash” or the “The Energizer Bunny.”

Best external collaborator
This award is for a collaborator external to DNS who has contributed significantly to the department This award celebrates external engagement and the development of lasting, successful, collaborations and partnerships in research, education and knowledge exchange.
