The Master of Science in Healthcare Simulation program had its annual on-campus intensive during which learners spent four active days immersed in simulation with SimUAB® (UAB's collaboration between the Office of Interprofessional Simulation and UAB Medicine's Clinical Simulation) and the School of Health Professions. This year's cohort really enjoyed its time onsite and the experiential learning. During the intensive, the students worked on scenario design, implementation, and debriefing. They also learned how to create enhancements that reinforce realism necessary to meet learning objectives by attending a Creative Enhancement session with Clinical Simulation and were able to engage in extended reality, as well. Students explored a variety of modalities and participated in immersive, tabletop, and screen-based simulation. While on-site, students were able to visit the Office of Standarized Patient Education (OSPE) to learn how OSPE validates cases and integrates standardized patients into high-stakes, summative assessments. Difficult debriefing was a focus of the last day of the intensive as they learned to navigate challenging situations and implement tools to promote reflection. Students commented on the value of the immersive experience, sharing that they were thankful for the immediate feedback and opportunity to learn from multiple simulation educators with varying expertise. The on-campus experience built upon the online didactic courses in the program and anchored evidence-based techniques as the students expand their simulation repertoire.

Learners were "excited to be exposed to many aspects of sim and build a foundational understanding of essential simulation concepts." One learner commented, "This has been the best educational experience I've ever had. The level of expertise, enthusiasm to teach and share, and the passion for sim was obvious in every part."
