Academic Advisor, Coordinated MPH Program Coordinator, Instructor
School of Public Health
Michelle Henry is a 14-year veteran of UAB who started her career in Temporary Services. Henry received her undergraduate degree from UAB in sociology, and has earned her masters in clinical mental health counseling. Her education and knowledge of UAB have helped her grow into her current role as a student counselor in the School of Public Health, she says.
“I love working with the students and seeing them be successful,” Henry continued. Her students are receptive to her counsel because she’s been in their shoes; she is able to relate to the students because of her own experiences in education and in her career.
“Michelle works tirelessly for the students of SOPH as an academic advisor,” said David Rhodes, program director in the School of Public Health.
When asked what advice she’d give to fellow staff members about achieving success at UAB, Henry recommends two things: “Definitely keep challenging yourself — and take advantage of the education benefit!”
In addition to her work at UAB, Henry has part-time jobs with the Birmingham Barons and the Birmingham Bulls. In her free time, Henry volunteers with the Crisis Center and the UAB Benevolent Fund’s Blazer Kitchen, as well as ushering at venues including the Lyric and Alabama Theaters.
She enjoys spending time off-roading in her Jeep, training in defensive firearms safety and unarmed self-defense, being outdoors and spending time with her two dogs and two cats.
