Assistant Vice President for Financial Affairs, Special Projects
Office of the UAB Chief Financial Officer
McMinn is a 30-year veteran of UAB, beginning his career in Student Accounting Services as an account representative. In those three decades of Blazerhood, he has gained vast knowledge of UAB’s complex financial systems, he says. And colleagues agree: Josh Carter, Ph.D., administrative director in the Office of the President, says McMinn is one of the smartest people he knows.
“He seems to have stored the entirety of UAB’s financial systems and budgets and millions of Oracle transaction steps in his mind," Carter said. "More importantly, he is kind. With all that he has to keep track of, he always has a moment to stop and see how you’re doing. He recently checked in on me one day just because he thought I looked like I was having a bad day.”
McMinn is a first -generation college graduate. A UAB alumni, Tim earned a bachelor’s in accounting and an MBA from UAB’s Collat School of Business in addition to the bachelor’s degree he earned from the University of Montevallo.
“My life mottos are 'keep it simple’ and ‘jo hai so hai,' which translates from Hindi to 'it is what it is.' They help me focus on what is important and not worry about things I cannot control," McMinn said.
When not contemplating Oracle transactions, McMinn enjoys creating, such as painting, gardening and making dresses for his nieces and grand-nieces.
