Herbert Wilkerson
My name is Herbert Wilkerson, LPC, JSOCC and I have been working in the mental health field for more than a decade. I am currently employed as a counselor in Student Counseling Services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In my role at UAB, I work with any student that desires to receive counseling services. I am passionate about working with Black students to decrease the stigma of mental health in our community and increase our usage of services. Prior to working at UAB, I have worked in the community as a therapist in residential, foster care and mental health center settings with all ages. Something I tell myself routinely is, “It’s not about me”. Meaning my role is to serve the under served and marginalized populations while treating them with human dignity and respect.
