About the Program


Move for a Movement is a four-week program focused on engagement through social justice, physical and emotional wellness, and educational opportunities. The program includes virtual events and activities that focus on social equity, expert-led discussions on current issues, volunteer opportunities, and physical fitness and wellness recommendations from professionals.

Our goals are to encourage participants to gain a deeper understanding of current social issues, explore the aspects of their own health and well-being, and to inspire participants to help create a more inclusive world.

 

What to Expect


Education

Education

Knowledge is power and we will encourage and empower participants to gain a deeper understanding of current social justice issues such as Black Lives Matter, health care disparities among minority groups, food deserts, and other social injustices affecting the world, while exploring aspects of their own mental and physical well-being.

Engagement

Engagement

During this unique 4-week program participants will be presented with social justice and physical wellness education opportunities. Our goal is for participants to use these moments of engagement as tools in their own personal growth journey.

Physical Fitness

Physical Fitness

Program participants will be exposed to a variety physical fitness and wellness theories and practices. We believe that a healthy mind and body are an integral part of a productive and joy-filled life.

Social Media Tuesday | M4M will post pictures and other information about historic landmarks and venues around UAB and the city of Birmingham on Instagram. We invite you to post your favorite UAB or Birmingham landmark on Instagram.

30 minute Walk and Talk | 12:15-12:45 p.m. | Join Herbert Wilkerson live on Facebook for a scheduled walk and talk when he will lead a discussion on music and social activism! | Join live on Facebook (uabstudents)

Thursday Night Conversation | 6-7 p.m. | Join Move for a Movement and Dr. Jamison as they discuss Go-Go music.

Friday Night Highlights | UAB student-athletes will post information on their favorite sports figures on Instagram (@uabstudents).

SUNDAY (Nov. 1)

Mindfulness + Reflection | 12-12:30 p.m.|M4M will provide either a live or recorded yoga or meditation resource live on Facebook (uabstudents) and destress with YOGA! The virtual session is free.
