Prospective Students
- Admission to UAB is the first step to receiving your VA educational benefits. To apply for admission, visit uab.edu/apply.
- Once you have been admitted to UAB, you must:
- Apply for military benefits. You may access forms to apply to use your educational benefits by visiting the GI BillR website.
- Create your BlazerID, password, and UAB email address at uab.edu/blazerid.
- Once you have successfully applied for military benefits, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility in the mail (will be mailed to the address you provided on your application for military benefits approximately 4-6 weeks after you apply). Please read the entire document carefully to know exactly what benefits you qualify for.
- Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the UAB Office of Veteran Recruitment and Student Services in one of the following ways:

- Once the UAB Office of Veteran Recruitment & Student Services receives your Certificate of Eligibility, you will receive an email confirmation containing a link to UAB Veterans Benefits Request Form allowing you to request your benefits (This email will be sent to your UAB email address). You will need your BlazerID and password to log in.
- UAB evaluates military service and educational experiences by all military service-members to include the Reserve and National Guard personnel. UAB is an institutional member of Service Members’ Opportunity Colleges. If you earned military credit while serving in the military, request to have official transcripts sent to UAB for evaluation. You may receive up to 24 credit hours once your transcripts have been evaluated.

- ***ENLISTED VETERANS ONLY*** JST or CCAF Transcripts are mandatory for your VA files.
- This completes the process for your first term of enrollment at UAB.
Per DoD MOU, paragraph 3.j.(2), UAB refrains from providing any commission, bonus, or other incentive payment based directly or indirectly on securing enrollments for federal financial aid (including TA funds) to any persons or entities engaged in any student recruiting, admission activities, or making decisions regarding the award of student financial assistance.
Per DoD MOU, paragraph 3.j.(3), UAB refrains from high-pressure recruitment tactics such as making multiple unsolicited contacts (3 or more), including contacts by phone, email, or in-person, and engaging in same-day recruitment and registration for the purpose of securing service member enrollments.
