Beverly Fishman: Another Day in Paradise features a selection of seven large works from Fishman’s recent Pills series. Pulling aesthetically from the minimalists and pop artists of the 1960s and 1970s, Fishman’s recent work blurs the line between painting and sculpture while investigating the way the pharmaceutical industry markets and brands their products to consumers.
Beverly Fishman is artist-in-residence and head of the painting department at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Fishman received a B.F.A. from Philadelphia College of Art and an M.F.A. from Yale University. Her work has been written about in numerous publications including Artforum, The Huffington Post, Modern Painters, The Wall Street Journal, and Art in America. She has received many awards and grants, including a Guggenheim Fellowship Award, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant.
Beverly Fishman: Another Day in Paradise is curated by John Fields, AEIVA Curator, and is supported in part by Judy and Hal Abroms and AEIVA’s generous members. This exhibition is presented by the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts and the UAB College of Arts and Sciences.
