My passion for studying and teaching about health equity along racial and ethnic lines stems from my upbringing in St. Louis, Missouri, where I noticed at an early age that residential segregation is a prominent social determinant of health for the people who live, work, learn, and play there. During my graduate studies, I developed an interest for studying the ways that racism at the institutional level may inhibit the life chances of Black Americans from the womb to the tomb.

While my work is largely multidisciplinary, I primarily employ the sociological perspective during my process of inquiry. Currently, I am investigating the secondhand effects of racism-related stress, and other psychosocial stressors, on the health and well-being of Black Americans. Outside of my research, I love providing students with the necessary tools to understand, and investigate, the social world in which we live. My most recent courses include: Inequalities of Society, and Introduction to Sociology.
