I discovered Sociology while I was in the military working as an analyst focused on attack-the-network counter-insurgency operations. I became fascinated with the complexity and dynamics of social networks and emergent phenomena, quickly discovered the field of sociology, and applied to graduate school to learn more.

I hold a PhD in Sociology from Stanford University. My doctoral work focused on understanding mechanisms involved in the popularity dynamics of popular music, and my research continues to focus on understanding emergent social behavior. As for teaching and research interests, I love anything computational social science and data science related. I am the lead for the Applied Social Data Analytics track for students enrolled in the online MA in Sociology, and my most recent courses include Categorical Data Analysis, Survey Research Methods, and the Sociology of Popular Culture.

Outside of teaching and research, I enjoy going for bike rides, listening to live music, and anything science fiction.
