Beginner Percussion Camp

The Beginners Percussion Camp will consist of five days of percussion instruction during the week of June 1 through June 5, and will feature group instruction, specialty sessions, and masterclasses. The camp session will last from 9:00 AM to noon daily.
The Beginners Camp will accept rising 6th - 8th grade students. Any student may apply, regardless of what percussion instrument they feel most comfortable on (snare, mallets, drum set, etc.). Although not necessary, it will be highly beneficial if the student is familiar with the interpretation of music notation and has had exposure to several different percussion instruments.
Camp Tuition

Percussion “Chop Shop” Camp
Event Dates: June 22-26, 2020
(rising 9th-12th graders)
Our popular “Chop Shop” is expanding to include keyboard percussionists! We will have two tracks during the week of June 22-26 – a keyboard track in the morning and a snare/tenor track in the afternoon. Students can do either track, or register for both and spend the day with us! Those that do both will have a reduced tuition of $400 with lunch included.
The Keyboard Percussion “Chop Shop” will consist of five days of group instruction and clinic sessions regarding many aspects of contemporary mallet percussion performance, including warm-ups and exercises for 2 and 4-mallet, performance skills, mallet selection, and solo/ensemble performances. Depending on the number and skill level of applicants, the large group may be split into groups in order to facilitate more effective teaching strategies. The workshop will last from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon daily.
The Marching Drumline “Chop Shop” will consist of five days of group instruction and clinic sessions regarding many aspects of contemporary marching percussion, including warm-ups and exercises, drum tuning/maintenance, arranging and writing skills, and more. Depending on the number and skill level of applicants, the large group may be split into groups in order to facilitate more effective teaching strategies. The workshop will last from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM daily.
The “Chop Shop” camps will accept rising 9th - 12th grade students, as well as recently graduated seniors. At least ONE year of previous experience in a school band setting (on percussion) is required. Knowledge of all rudiments and scales is preferred, but not required. Acceptance to the camp is the sole decision of the camp coordinator.
