Research Highlights - Clinical Trials in Action

• Beth Curles' journey through a clinical trial for a rare blood cancer highlighted the significant improvements in her life enabled in the CCTS Clinical Research Unit. This story exemplified the profound impact that dedicated research and clinical trials can have on patient outcomes.
• Research supported by the CCTS Bionutrition Unit showcased the effects of dietary sodium on blood pressure, demonstrating the importance of dietary choices on heart health. This study provided valuable insights into how simple dietary adjustments can lead to significant health benefits.
• The NAUTICAL study focused on the role of natriuretic peptides (NPs) in Black individuals, aiming to improve cardiometabolic health and address health issues through precision medicine. Participant Dominique Carnes shared her motivations and experiences, emphasizing the importance of inclusive research and the study's potential to develop tailored therapeutic strategies.
• ACTion Learning workshop provided an interactive session aimed at empowering clinical research professionals with skills for obtaining truly informed consent. This event used local actors to depict real-life scenarios, offering practical and engaging learning experiences that highlighted the complexities of the informed consent process.

Team Highlights - Empowering Researchers

• We highlighted the Clinical Research Support Program (CRSP), which leads a comprehensive portfolio of learning opportunities and reference assets, including the Clinical Trials Kiosk, tailored for all team members and focusing on Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research excellence and standard operating procedures across the lifecycle of a trial. These programs ensure that researchers are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct high-quality clinical trials.
• The ClinicalTrials.gov Top-10 List provided a comprehensive guide to empower investigators with strategies for successful, innovative, and impactful clinical trials. This resource aimed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical research endeavors.
• OnCore was spotlighted as a key tool in supporting clinical research progress through protocol administration, participant tracking, and sponsor invoicing. Its integration with other systems facilitates streamlined operations and improved compliance and safety.
• Efforts to build a robust community of practice among clinical research professionals were emphasized through newsletters and networking initiatives. Publications like the CCTS Digest provide essential updates and foster communication, enhancing collective efforts across the research community.
