CCTS Engagement of Communities recently hosted community partner, Faith In Action Alabama (FIAA), for its August Birmingham HUB Meeting. Faith In Action Alabama is a multi-faith organization that seeks to address the public health crisis of gun violence, organize equal treatment within the criminal justice system, raise awareness of voter restoration, and dismantle systemic racism by using multi-faith initiatives in communities.Community and Scientific Action Board (CSAB) member, Rev. Moneka Thompson, opened with prayer, and Voter Rights Restoration organizer, Minister JaiGregory Clarke led the meeting agenda which included topics on Voter Engagement and Voter Rights Restoration. Pastor Robert Lewis gave a presentation from Every Child Alabama, a community-led organization working to ensure every child across Alabama has access to a world-class education in order to strengthen communities, making them a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
CCTS program director, Clifford Kennon was on hand to give the Faith Reflection on how communities and Spiritual Faith can work together. Kennon said, “that faith reflection is important because it reminds every person to take inventory on the state of their own spiritual lives and that as our spiritual faith directs us, we have a responsibility to ourselves and one another to make communities better for the next generation.” Additionally, FIAA’s community violence reduction initiatives in partnership with Birmingham Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were discussed.
