Multiphoton excitation penetrates farther into tissue with less scattering than traditional (single photon) confocal. Another advantage is the restrictied the excitation volume in x-y-z leading to less photobleaching and phototoxicity.This upright microscope can image cells, tissues, or in whole organisms. The microscope has a large platform stage which can accomodate small animals. With the resonant scanner 512x512 images can be acquired at 30 frames per second. Images can be acquired at faster speeds by reducing the scan region.
