Chin-Chuan Fu, D.D.S., M.S., has been named Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences in UAB School of Dentistry. The appointment was effective in August 2023.
An associate professor and Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, Fu joined the UAB faculty in 2007 under the Department of Prosthodontics, which was later transitioned to the Department of Restorative Sciences. She was named the department’s associate chair in 2021. At that time, she also served as Division Director of Prosthodontics, supervising the clinical and didactic programs. In her roles, Fu was instrumental in designing predoctoral prosthodontic competencies, among other accomplishments.
In early 2022, Fu was named interim director of the Comprehensive Care Clinic. She quickly took a leading role to keep clinical operations running smoothly as the school’s first-floor facilities were closing for renovations. She was later named interim department chair in November 2022, replacing Daniel Givan, D.M.D., Ph.D., who became Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs.
“I am grateful to Dr. Givan for the leadership he provided our department,” says Fu. “The department plays a crucial role in the D.M.D. curriculum and clinical activities, and we take pride in our residency and auxiliary programs that educate and train a skilled and effective oral health care team. We look to build upon our great foundation with the opening of our new first floor clinical facilities.”
In addition to serving the department and student clinics, Fu is a UAB Faculty Development Program grant recipient and has regularly participated in the school’s Scholars Symposium. Her memberships include the American Dental Association, American College of Prosthodontics, and American Association for Dental Research, of which she has served in leadership with the Alabama Chapter.
“Dr. Fu is well positioned to lead the department of Restorative Sciences and contribute to the bright future of UAB Dentistry,” says Nico Geurs, Interim Dean. “I know that she will be a great asset to the department and our school in her new role.”
