Amjad Javed, Ph.D. has been named director of the Global Center for Craniofacial, Oral and Dental Disorders (GC-CODED). He also serves as the interim associate dean for research and director of postgraduate education in the School of Dentistry.
With a UAB UWIRC designation, GC-CODED is an inter-and multi-disciplinary integrated center providing a focused forum for the development of novel therapies; training of students, residents, and faculty; and education of the community in areas related to conditions of the craniofacial/oral complex and dentition.
Javed is a professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with secondary appointments in Biomedical Engineering; Cell, Development & Integrative Biology; Otolaryngology; and Pathology. He is a senior scientist in several UAB research centers, including the Comprehensive Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, Bone and Autoimmunity Center (CAMBAC), as well as an associate scientist in the O’Neal Comprehensive Care Center and others.
He is active in the International Association for Dental Research, among other national and international organizations. With a wealth of knowledge and connections, Javed has worked to strengthen GC-CODED in his time as interim associate dean.
