Master's Program
The School of Dentistry in collaboration with the UAB Graduate School offers graduate studies leading to a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Dentistry. The objective of the program is to relate basic biological sciences to health and diseases of the oral cavity and craniofacial complex. This multi-track program is designed for individuals holding a D.D.S., D.M.D., or B.A/B.S. (biology, chemistry, biomedical science major) with minimal or no research experience.
This program will provide training in dental academics and teaching and research in basic or applied sciences. Students can pursue research studies focused on clinical dentistry, oral biology, or biomaterials.
D.M.D./Ph.D. Program
Collaborating with UAB’s Graduate Biomedical Sciences, the School of Dentistry offers a D.M.D./Ph.D. degree program to prepare students for an exciting career in dental academics through an innovative integrated clinician-scientist training program. Students in this specialized program apply credits earned in dental and graduate school towards earning both a D.M.D. degree and a Ph.D. degree in biomedical science. Program duration is expected to be 8 years; however, students with strong prior research experience have completed the program in 7 years.
DART Program
D.M.D./Ph.D. students, as well as pre- and post-doctoral students interested in pursuing basic or clinical research are eligible for funding through the School of Dentistry’s Dental Academic Research Training (DART) Program. DART provides a broadened interdisciplinary research experience for exceptionally motivated trainees in a research-intensive collaborative academic environment.
