Omar Mohamed, BDS, MS, PGDip, CAGS, FRCDC, has joined the UAB School of Dentistry faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences, Division of Prosthodontics. He also serves as Director of Quality Assurance.
Mohamed’s research interests include dental implants, digital dentistry and workflows, and dental biomaterials. Among his awards, he has received the Carol A. Lefebvre research award, acknowledging excellence in prosthodontics as demonstrated by innovative research in patient treatment methods or materials, from the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. His extramural activities include serving as a reviewer for the Journal of Prosthodontics.
A member of the American College of Prosthodontics, the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, and the International Team of Implantology (ITI), Mohamed is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentistry Canada (FRCDC) in Prosthodontics.
Having earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery and completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, Mohamed also received a postgraduate Diploma in Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry from the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Lyon, France through Elite, Dubai, UAE. He later received an MSc in Oral Sciences and an Advanced Prosthodontics Certificate at the University of Buffalo.
The UAB Department of Restorative Sciences is comprised of world-class faculty and staff who are committed to excellence in oral health education, research, and patient care. In addition to providing core predoctoral didactic and clinical education, the department's postdoctoral programs offer specialized care for patients with debilitated oral health, providing advanced treatments and restorative procedures. The department also offers auxiliary academic programs, addressing current and future labor force needs by educating a competent and efficient oral health care team. Research conducted by the department aims to augment the body of knowledge through laboratory, clinical, and materials research for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases.
