The UAB Department of Orthodontics is proud to announce that Christos Vlachos, D.M.D., D.D.S., M.S., is recipient of the 2023 Southern Association of Orthodontics (SAO) Faculty Lecture Award. He will lecture on the use of the Class II Carriere Distalizer in Orthodontics on October 26, 2023 during the SAO Annual Session.
Holding dental degrees from the University of Athens, Greece and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Vlachos received a Master’s degree in Occlusion and the treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMJ) from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and completed his specialty training in Orthodontics at UAB.
Vlachos served on the UAB Department of Orthodontics faculty from 1992 to 1997, teaching undergraduate, graduate and continuing education courses in orthodontics and occlusion. Since 1997, he has maintained private orthodontic practices in Homewood, Pell City, and Calera while teaching part-time at UAB.
In 2008, Vlachos was appointed Director of the Postdoctoral Program in Orthodontics at UAB while maintaining a part-time teaching role. In June 2022, he returned as a full-time faculty member.
Vlachos is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics as well as a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, UAB Orthodontic Alumni Association, American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, and the Birmingham District Dental Society.
In addition to orthodontic care for children and adults, Vlachos offers treatment to patients with TMJ problems as well as Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
