Innovate Fellow
Caila is currently enrolled in the Neuroengineering Ph.D. program at UAB. Her project focuses on the application of non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, such as stroboscopic light stimulation, to improve mental health and cognitive function. She received her bachelor's and master’s degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan, where she was involved in the research and development of an infrared system for acute treatment following hypoxic events, including neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, heart attack, and stroke.
Her involvement with the UofM emergency medicine lab and associated startup company spurred her interest in learning more about the steps required to take innovative laboratory discoveries and make them available for patients in need. Caila is excited to be in the Innovate Fellow program where she gets to help contribute to this process. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, camping, kayaking, and trying to keep her garden alive.
