A total of 15 organizations were recognized as Live HealthSmart Alabama Designated Partners for their commitment to promoting a healthier city and state. Led by Live HealthSmart Alabama (LHSA), an initiative of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the event brought together community partners and LHSA representatives to acknowledge the important work Designated Partners do to help achieve the mission of improving the health of Alabamians.
Since winning the inaugural UAB Grand Challenge in 2019, LHSA has been on a mission to make good health simple. To help further the mission, LHSA works with businesses, schools, houses of faith, and non-profits that engage the well-being of their employees. Focusing initially on five communities in the Birmingham area—Bush Hills, East Lake, Kingston, Titusville, and UAB’s campus— and now in North Birmingham and Selma, LHSA has implemented changes in policy, systems, and the built environment to address areas such as prevention, healthy eating, physical activity, and education.
Becoming a Designated Partner involves organizations or individuals collaborating one-on-one with LHSA representatives to highlight existing efforts and introduce new initiatives that demonstrate their organization's dedication to a healthier state. This active approach allows partners to take part in the transformation of our state into a place where everyone can enjoy a healthy future.
Dr. Mona Fouad, CEO of LHSA and Director of the UAB Minority Health & Health Equity Research Center says “We developed a way to recognize organizations in the community for their efforts to help create a healthier Alabama for all. Making good health simple for the whole state takes everyone working together. Our Live HealthSmart Alabama Designated Partners are extending our reach into their organizations. I am overjoyed with their response to our mission, and I look forward to seeing the many ways it helps their employees lead happy and healthy lives.”
Live HealthSmart Alabama congratulates all Designated Partners for their dedication and passion in fostering a culture of health and well-being within their organizations.
