Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology

Postdoctoral scholars are essential contributors to the research mission at UAB. Upwards of five to ten percent of the institution's postdocs are participating in cutting edge research within a microbiology faculty mentor's lab. UAB's strong commitment to the next generation of scientists provides an environment to postdocs that allows a meaningful experience and a path to success in their chosen careers. UAB is known for providing top tier postdoc experiences and has a proven track record of being where professionals in the research field come from. UAB ranks consistently as one of the top locations among US universities for training postdoctoral scholars. Postdocs are such an integral part of this department and the impact that they have on research is certainly appreciated at UAB.

There are two different statuses of postdocs at UAB: postdoc trainee and postdoc fellow. Postdoc trainees are defined at UAB as individuals who have received and will be paid from an IRS-defined training grant. Postdoc fellows are not paid from an IRS-defined training grant. It is important that you know your status as the benefits and pay structure are different for each. Please refer to the email sent by Jessica Gunnin which will include your employment status and your employee ID.
