The Neuroengineering Brain Computer Interface Working Group serves both the Educational and Research missions of the CNC. The goals of the group are to help develop, support, and promote the new UAB Neuroengineering PhD Program, to foster communication and collaborations among investigators who do neuroengineering research or use neuroengineering approaches in their research, and to expand the extent of neuroengineering research at UAB. The new Neuroengineering Ph.D. program is a joint activity between the UAB Schools of Engineering and Medicine, is a first-of-its kind program in the state of Alabama and one of the only freestanding neuroengineering doctoral programs in the country.
By combining faculty expertise in neurobiology, neuroscience, engineering and the sciences this program will train a new generation of neuroengineers to advance understanding of neurodegenerative disorders and other brain diseases and develop novel therapeutics, neuroprosthetics and tools to restore lost brain function and improve patient outcomes.
