Weekly Schedule

The fellow will participate in 10 clinics per week Monday through Friday. Time is split between our MOHS faculty, giving our fellow the widest range of experience possible.

Curriculum and Teaching Expectations

The scope of this subspecialty includes Mohs micrographic surgery, general dermatologic surgery, and cutaneous oncology. Additional exposure to head and neck surgery, oculoplastics, dermatopathology, ASDS preceptorships, and others is available. The fellow is expected to complete various scholarly projects including didactic talks to nursing personnel and residents, publications, and presentations at national meetings.

Please refer to the ACGME Program Requirements document for a complete description of the subspecialty.

ACGME Case Logs

The fellow is required to log a minimum 500 Mohs surgical cases as primary surgeon and 500 reconstruction procedures as primary surgeon. Of the 500 reconstructions, at least 50 must be advanced/complex cases, including: random pattern flap repair, grafts (including full and split thickness grafts), repairs at difficult anatomic sites, e.g., eyelids, lips, intraoral and repair of defects greater than 10 sq. cm. This must be done before the fellow can graduate and take the MSD Subspecialty Certificate.

Conferences

The fellow can attend the ACMS conference, ASDS conference, and the Alabama Dermatology Society Summer Symposium. Funding is available to attend these events if deisred.
