The UAB Medical Genetics Residency Training Program offers four separate training tracks, each of which will lead to eligibility to take the American Board of Medical Genetics examination in Medical Genetics.
Medical Genetics Residency
A two-year training program that includes 18 months of clinical rotations and six months of protected research time. To be eligible, one must have completed two years of another primary care residency (e.g., pediatrics, internal medicine, and family medicine).
Internal Medicine - Medical Genetics
A four-year training program that includes 30 months of internal medicine training and 18 months of clinical genetics rotations. Candidates enter this track directly out of medical school.
Pediatrics - Medical Genetics
A four-year training program that includes 30 months of pediatric training and 18 months of clinical genetics rotations. Candidates enter this track directly out of medical school.
Maternal Fetal Medicine - Medical Genetics
A four-year training program that includes 12 months of clinical maternal fetal medicine training, 15 months of clinical genetics rotations, and 21 months of protected research time. To be eligible, one must have completed a residency in OB-GYN
