An additional ongoing aim, with the vision of many talented residents, is seeing the new Resident Wellness and Improvement Committee come to fruition, with events such as UAB run club, yoga, and Habitat-for-Humanity community service.
The program mainstays of academic excellence continue running strong with another successful Research in Medical Education Summit, SSGIM abstract submission season, and Kaizen season under way.
But that is enough business. Let’s talk about what our program is doing outside of work! We started the year with a “Games and Grub” picnic, hosted a Birmingham Barons baseball game outing, and recently introduced the PBR (Pumpkins, Brews and Recreation) Party for football fans amongst our residency group. The fall social season concluded with the ever-anticipated Camp Dismukes, named in honor of Dr. William Dismukes who directed our residency program from 1981-2002.
It goes without saying that we love this program; and we have our alumni to thank for its continued prosperity. At the program’s core are the thousands of tremendous alumni who serve communities across the country in their respective fields of medical practice.
We look forward to what the rest of this year has in store; and we hope you enjoy this edition of Letters to Tinsley.
