At UAB, we are excited to welcome International Visiting Scholars (IVS) to our prestigious facilities.
With access to world-renowned physicians, scientists, and educators, scholars have the opportunity to learn, observe, and collaborate in an environment that thrives on inclusivity and excellence. We believe that these experiences will not only benefit our scholars but also contribute significantly to the ongoing advancement of UAB’s teaching missions.
UAB considers International Visiting Scholars to include a broad group of individuals, including observers, shadowers, graduate students, educators, speakers, and researchers who are affiliated with UAB in a non-credit earning, and non-degree earning status. Please note that this category does not include UAB-employed postdocs or international employees.
Visiting scholars may be self-funded, supported by UAB, sponsored by their home government, or a combination of any of these funding sources.
The process of becoming an International Visiting Scholar at UAB begins with an invitation from a UAB faculty member who will serve as the mentor/host. From there, a comprehensive campus-wide process is initiated, requiring submission, review, and approval of all necessary documentation for both onboarding and offboarding, in accordance with UAB policies and procedures.
International Visiting Scholars (IVS) can participate in a clinical observership opportunity, a non-clinical research opportunity, or a combination of both.
