Student-structured opportunities allow medical students to play an active role in structuring their international medicine training experience. There are two types of student-structured electives that medical students can participate in.
UAB International Medical Education Medical Student-Structured Opportunities allow MS4 students within the Recognition of Distinction in Global Health (RDGH) program to work alongside IME to craft an international elective. These opportunities will go toward fulfilling the international elective category of the RDGH program. UAB IME student-structured electives are eligible for possible scholarship opportunities.
Independent Student-Structured Opportunities allow any medical student to craft an international elective. These opportunities are crafted independently by the student and with approval by Education Abroad and HSOM. After receiving approval to go abroad via Education Abroad, and academic approval via HSOM, UAB IME will give final approval for travel. Independently crafted student-structured opportunities are not eligible for scholarship opportunities.
