UAB Otolaryngology holds 13th annual Residents’ Research Day

The Department of Otolaryngology held its 13th annual Ann B. and Julius N. Hicks Lectureship in Otolaryngology and Residents’ Research Day on May 5. The lectureship was established in 2006 to help support resident education in otolaryngology and continues to provide distinguished guest speaking from throughout the country.
Fifteen outstanding faculty members were named recipients of the 2018 Dean’s Excellence Awards, an honor recognizing exceptional contributions made by School of Medicine faculty in service, teaching, research, diversity enhancement and mentorship.
The School of Medicine held its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 19 at Bartow Arena. Selwyn M. Vickers, M.D., F.A.C.S., senior vice president for medicine and dean of the School of Medicine welcomed the 162 graduates and their families to the 2018 ceremony.

On January 19, 2018, the School of Medicine assembled nearly 100 faculty representing departments, centers, institutes and other leaders for its annual research retreat. The topic of the 2018 retreat was strategic recruitment.
The HIV Medicine Association (HVMA) has awarded UAB Health Equity Scholar, Kelsie Dodson, with one of their scholarship grants.
On March 26-30, 46 undergraduate students competed in the Dare to Diagnose competition. Dare to Diagnose was created by undergraduates in the Science and Technology Honors Program in partnership with faculty from the UAB School of Medicine.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the American Society of Nephrology launch Kidney Innovation Accelerator

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a new partnership with the American Society of Nephrology to launch the Kidney Innovation Accelerator (KidneyX).
