The UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Sports Medicine Section collaborates with UAB Sports & Exercise Medicine, which specializes in the evaluation, management, rehabilitation, and prevention of injury and disorders in patients of all ages.
Our providers have years of experience treating high school, collegiate and professional and adaptive athletes, and use those same skills when treating weekend warriors or those at any level of experience. Supported by the Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the clinic is comprised of physicians, care coordinators, certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, radiologists, a psychologist, a nutritionist, and a certified pedorthist. The clinic is also supported by athletic trainers who are certified by the Board of Certification (BOC) and licensed by the state of Alabama, as well as being equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a full radiology and ultrasound imaging suite.
We value community partnerships and work with athletes from UAB Athletics, Birmingham Legion FC, Bulls Hockey, Vulcans Rugby, Birmingham United Soccer Association (BUSA), Hoover-Vestavia Soccer Club, and multiple local high schools. Our team prides itself on educating athletes, parents, and coaches on the proper development of athletes and injury prevention.
Our goal is to restore athletes to their prior level of play in not only a timely but also safe fashion. Through a comprehensive and up-to-date approach, we strive to allow you as an athlete to excel and enjoy a lifetime of healthy sporting activities.
