Aras is originally from Istanbul, Turkey. He came to the United States to study Management and Information Systems. Aras attended Troy University in 2001 then transferred to UAB to complete his bachelor's degree.  Upon completion of his undergraduate degree in 2004, he began working for the Division of Preventive Medicine (DOPM) as the coordinator of data collection for a national research study funded by NCI. Over the last 15 years at DOPM, he continued to progress to his current position of Research V. In 2015, he obtained his MBA and is currently enrolled in the PhD program in Health Services Administration. During his time in DOPM, he has worked on large, multi-site community-based research studies in the US Southeastern region, managing data operations.

Aras, his wife and their two young children live in Homewood, AL.
