A core mission of the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care, one of the University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Centers (UWIRC), is the advancement of knowledge. Since the early 2000’s, with UAB and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (Alabamians for Better Care at Life’s End) funding, the Center has sought to discover and advance palliative care knowledge.
Our faculty and learners seek to positively impact palliative care research at the state, regional, and global level. The leadership of the Center is guided by a strategic plan that serves as a roadmap to achieving these goals. The objectives laid out in the strategic plan are the basis for both the Palliative Research Enhancement Project (PREP) Pilot Grants and the Center Scholars program.
Our Center is a University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Center (UWIRC) led by Drs. Rodney Tucker and Marie Bakitas. This joint Center of the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, coupled with the Division of Geriatrics, Gerontology and Palliative Medicine and the Southeast Institute for Innovation in Palliative and Supportive Care (SIIPSC) at UAB, is poised to attract investigators from around the region to join in future research efforts.
